Trying to figure out what went wrong. Today I lost a 1 year old bunny not waking up from anaesthesia. Routine spay. No problems. 1,8 kg. Nothing wrong on pre anaesthesia exam. The rabbit had been stressed 1 hour earlier as owner had problems catching it, but was calm at clinic. 0,44 dexdomitor, 0,15 bupaq.0,11 metacam. Oksygen by‐flow. After 10 min lightly sedated bunny gets 0,17 ketalar iv. Inspection of throat with otoscope. Placement of vgel. Oksygen, then Isoflurane .temperature 38,5-38,8 whole procedure. Easy and quick ovariohysterectomia without bleeding. Oksygen and heartbeat fine all the time. After surgery Oksygen. Revazol. V-gel removed, and after some minutes suddenly heart stops and breathing stops. Cpr, adrenalin, dopram... the heart beats again for a while, and cpr gets oksygen to 90 %for a while.the rabbit never starts breathing again by it self. At autopsy I wonder about the lungs. Large areas of many lung lobes are without air. Microscopy ,squash of cut lung, show these cells and rows of bacteria. Did maybe this rabbit have a lunginflammation that I didn't find before surgery? Thoughts and tips to prevent this from happening again ?
