Hello! Today I met a Guinea pig, 1,5 year old male. He has some type of skin lesion on his back, hard thick skin approximately 5 cm in diameter and 1 cm thick which is covered in dandruff. In the middle of the area is a crater/hole and I could not see the bottom. He has had this since the owners got him. Recently he is scratching and has been treated two times with selamectin, each time two applications with 14 day intervall and the scratching has ceased. But it returns a couple of weeks later. He scratches on the sides below the lesion but also around his neck. It wasnt easy to take pictures of it but the wounds are on the sides of the body and the thick area are in the middle and you can se the crater as a dark area. Has anyone any ideas?
Maria Messler I would colect fungus sample. Remember about zoonotic fungus. It is for people good also. And if you will be unlucky Owner can come with some leason. And yes fungus can be with him from childhood but showed itself now when something else came. ALWAYS take at least fungus and send to lab. As I wrote ealier my vetfriend had really bad problems when owner ended with fungus in hospital- she got question why she didn't collect fungus culture to protect human being...
