Hi there dear colleagues!
I am to receive my first snake tomorrow and wonder if you have any thoughts of what this could be or I should keep in mind during the examination.
She’s a Ball python, the owner has had her in 4-5 years and she usually eats once every 1-2 weeks. We live in Norway. The owner describes her mouth to look weird on her right side. She blows bubbles from her mouth. And lately she’s started to wave her head back and forth and scratching her head against the wood in her terrarium.
I only have the information from the appointment booking now, so unfortunately I don’t know a lot about the husbandry specifics, but the owner seems knowledgeable and dedicated. I will ask more about the husbandry at the appointment.
I first thought it could be mouth rot or an airway infection, but the head waving makes me wonder if there could be anything neurological?
(The owner had called a lot of clinics before us and didn’t find any able to help them, so I’m doing the best I can, and any help would be greatly appreciated)
As Isi Grefensays. IBD. Laboklin has a nice virus panel for boids and pythons. They require swabs (see the requirements in the submission form) and test for several viruses. Also, some morphs are born with awful defects…
