Hi everyone!
I have a 6-year-old castrared male rabbit with skin problems I need some help with. He has quite a long medical history:
At the first visit in March he presented with hair loss behind the ears and in the neck. Could not find any parasites, bacteria, or fungus on cytology. He was treated with stronghold to rule out mites and the hair grew back eventually.
The owner then noticed that he started to lose weight around April this year and he developed weakness in his hindlegs and struggled walking normally. X-rays of the spine and extremities was without remark. He was treated with Panacur for 28 days and his mobility in the hindlegs improved, but the owner now noticed that he was urinating more than before and maybe drinking more than usual. Urine sample was sent for bacteriology and came back positive for alpha hemolytic streptococci and Escherichia coli. We also took some blood samples that showed increased urea and creatinine (Urea 12,4 mmol/L (2,6-10,3) Creatinin 248 umol/L (51,4-154,4)). He was treated with fluids, and antibiotics for the UTI until negative bacteriology. The owner now thought he was doing better, but still drinking and urinating more than normal. We have not been able to recheck the kidney values - he was doing okey at home, so I didn’t hear from the owner for a while.
Today he presented with alopecia in his neck with multiple small white, firm nodules in the skin shown in the pictures (this is after I have attempted FNA). I could not get any material out with fine needle aspiration. No findings on cytology from the skin. He has had them for around two weeks, but he started itching yesterday so the owner got in touch. I have not seen anything like this on a rabbit before and feel quite clueless - does anyone have any idea what this might be?
All help is much appreciated!
