*PHA Pelger-Huet Anomaly* in Dogs

Def :

Rare genetically inherited condition characterized by abnormal WBC'S.

Common Dog breeds :
. Cocker spaniels
. Australian shepherds
. Samoyed
. Foxhounds

Two Types :

1. Heterozygous:

More common
Bengin

2. Homozygous:

Lethal for affected dogs in utero or still born with physical defects such as ( Shortened paws , Poorly developed cartilage ) .

Symptoms:

Most cases are Asymptomatic

Diagnosis:

Through Blood smear

Breeders : must be careful not allow affected dogs to breed due to :

1. High mortality rate in their young .

2. Risk of passing condition to next generation.
