Hello! Female guinea pig, soon 2 years old, intact, weight 1kg. Owner discovered a bald patch 6 days ago, left side of her torso. Not an open wound, just bald skin. Owner went to the vet and got ivermectin as the vet thought it might be parasites (not an exotics vet). Today, you can see the patch has grown and looks more aggressive. Seems to be more moist but not directly bleeding.

Any idea what this could be? My thoughts are either scurvy or a bacterial infection? Her previous cage mate was put down for these types of patches without knowing why they appeared..

Hi
Culture and antibiogram! A trichogram in clinic, see the hairs and skin debris under a microscope. Hair quality and/or lesions tell a story too. Also, thorough questions about environment and diet. When you do culture, do also a dermatophyte brush and culture. I cannot say if these lesions “ring a bell” from the pictures, but you’ll be covered by these exams. Keep us posted!
