Hi! Have a rabbit patient that I need some help with.
2,5 yo neutered hermelin male.
The last month he has had medium ammonts of purulent discharge from his right nostril.
Because og this he is now sore and red arround the nose and nostril.
General condition is good, housing is good and feeding is good.
Eating and drininking well.
Examination: Normal weight, abdominal palpation normal, teeth is fine, no sharp edges or overgrowth. Both tear ducts are easy to flush today, but small ammounts of nasal discharge comes out while flushing the right side. No ocular discharge or changes to the eyes.
Auscultation of thorax: normal lung sounds, no stridor.
Weak stridor in upper respiratory system, suspect nasal stridor. Clear air flow from both nostrils.
Tried initially with metacam and local wound cleaning with sterile NaCl. He responded well to this, but as soon we stopped metacam and cleaning it started again.
Have started metacam again with local cleaning and taken out a bacterial swab for culture and resistance testing, awaiting results.
He is quite brachycephalic and has had a nasal stridor his whole life. Could it be his anatomy predesposing him for secondary infections?
Anyone has any suspecions of what could be the cause? And how to treat it better?
Pasteurella multocida? Other respiratory
Will update as soon as we have the culture result.
