Hi! I have a 4,5 years old rooster patient who started breathing differently yesterday (see video), mostly with an open mouth. This is a backyard rooster, walks freely in a sanctuary among geese, pigs and goats. Yesterday his feces were watery and grainy brownish (see photo), today it was more chalky with a few green spots and the rest watery. To me it looks like the dyspnoea come from the upper respiratory tract as there's no increased bodily effort. The crop appears fine on palpation, but I didn't risk taking a crop sample due to the dyspnoea (I'm a coward, I know...). Oral mucus membranes and larynx appears normal and without lesions. The microscopic fecal analysis shows heterophils (?), a large number of rods and some crystals. Can't find any parasite eggs, but still sending the feces to Laboklin for bacteriology, mycology, salmonella and endoparasite analysis.
None of the other animals are affected. Recently treated with ivermectin (approx. 2 weeks ago).
Any suggestions on the etiological agent here? I'm working at a strict small animal hospital, and my knowledge about poultry is limited. Situated in Norway (from an epidemiological point of view). Seriously, any suggestions will do.
