Hi. 10 year old bird. Had this problem for a long time. Swaps negative. Haven't taken blood yet, owner not interested.

Classic injuries. Chronic and painful. Usually not easy to treat, since the area is in constant rubbing and the bird self mutilates. If the owner is not willing to do diagnostics, there is not much you can do. Culture is often negative, but that doesn’t rule out commensals adding to inflammatory response. Diet, husbandry, stress, environment, etc play important roles in this etiology. That bird needs either dedicated owners or should not suffer anymore.
There are no quick fixes for this. Poor baby…😢

Have you tried metronidazole 15mg/kg bid for two weeks along with meloxicam 0.6mg/kg bid? Classical area for giardia infection in lovebirds or cockatiels. Never been able to find out why a gut infection results in the chewing under the wings but often responds to above treatment. Occasionally requires f10 wound ointment on the lesions but I’ve had success without the ointment (before it existed 🤣)
